This rest stop on the New Bedford waterfront includes a garden, benches and informational placards about the Schooner Ernestina, which is docked adjacent to the park when in port.
The park features a mythical sea god sculpure by Ana Hyatt Huntington. The one-ton statue is a memorial to "...those seamen who's only grave is the ocean floor." The sculpture includes a variety of sea creatures.
The park is named for Norwegian immigrant, Rasmus Tonnesen, who came to New Bedford in 1929 and founded a prominent ship supply business that is still in operation today.
