Sample the wares of some of the country's finest microbreweries. The festival includes beer and ale tasting, non-alcoholic beverage tasting, and a home brewer competition. In addition to tasting competitions, the festival includes a chowder cook-off and jazz entertainment.

The festival includes the Whaling City Wine Expo.

Proceeds benefit the Whaling Museum, Waterfont Historic Area League (WHALE), YMCA, New Bedford Art Museum, The NB aquarium project, The Roch-Jones-Duff House and museum, the Zeiterion theater, the S.S Nobska restoration, New Bedford Festival Theater, and other waterfront beautification projects by non-profit groups.
