Fort Phoenix State Reservation

The state park includes an historic fort built on the point overlooking the entrance to New Bedford harbor. The original fort was destroyed by the British during the Revolutionary War. The fort was later rebuilt and still has several cannon emplacements that were built for defense of the harbor.

The beach area features a sandy beach, refreshment center, tennis courts, and children's playground. You can also walk out on the hurricane barrier to get an up-close view of fishing vessels and pleasure craft going in and out of the harbor.
