The restored cobblestone streets with gas-lamp style lighting recapture the 19th century
atmosphere that stems from the many historic buildings that still serve the residents and
businesses of the city.
The historic district features several fine examples of Greek Revival
architecture, restored
buildings, restaurants, shops, and businesses. Within the historic district
are the Whaling Museum, Seamen's
Bethel, Double Bank Building, Rodman Candleworks, U. S. Custom
House, and several unique shops and restaurants.
The Historic Landmark District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located within The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
