Abijah Hathaway House
66 N. Second St.
New Bedford, MA 02740
800-508-5353, 508-991-6200
Built in 1846, the Abijah Hathaway House is an example of the Greek Revival style of private home construction.
The house was originally built on South Water St. and was moved twice before finding a permanent location in the New Bedford Historic District. The first move, in 1907, repositioned the house on the original lot to face the house toward South Front St. In 1979, the Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE (WHALE) moved the house to the Historic District to save it from demolition. WHALE restored the house, which now houses private offices.
The Abijah Hathaway House is located within The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
